    How to Spend Your Chicago Summer

    Summer in Chicago is accompanied by some of the nation’s best festivals, both gigantic and local. No matter what your tastes are, there is a festival for everyone. We compiled a list of events and festivals that are happening around Vice District throughout the summer. This way you’ll be able to experience some of the best events that Chicago has to offer while being close enough to enjoy some of the city’s finest craft brews in our taproom before, during and after your event.

    Millennium Park Events

    Beginning June 12 and running through August 21, the Millennium Park Summer Music Series will offer free concerts from a wide range of established and emerging artists at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. The concerts will be held at 6:30 p.m. every Monday and Thursday unless noted otherwise.

    The Pritzker Pavilion will also offer free movies every Tuesday night at 6:30 from June 13 through September 5. This year, the Millennium Park Summer Film Series will feature a highlight lineup of movies such as, The Blues Brothers, Caddyshack and Wayne’s World, so plan your summer evenings accordingly.

    Every Saturday - beginning on June 3 and running through September 2 - you can begin your weekend with a free morning workout on the Millennium Park great lawn in front of the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. The workout sessions run from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. and will feature music, yoga, pilates, strength training and drumming during Zumba. These summer workouts are the perfect place to start your weekend off right.

    Festivals

    Friday Night Flights: Loop, South Loop and Bronzeville

    On Friday, July 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the 2300 Block of South Indiana Avenue, Chicago will feature the breweries in the Loop, South Loop and Bronzeville neighborhoods. Friday Night Flights is a new, summer-long series created by Choose Chicago and the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild to feature the city’s thriving craft beer scene. The event highlights the greatest beers in Chicago with food vendors and live entertainment. If you’re a beer lover, this is not something you want to miss.

    Randolph Street Market Festival

    This exotic, pet friendly, indoor-outdoor market appeals to a broad audience with its antiques, vintage clothing, collectibles, food, drinks and indie music. The Randolph Street Market Festival is a world-renowned market with a truly unique collection of items that has landed itself on many summer to-do lists. This year the festival will take place on June 24 and 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

    Maxwell Street Market

    Have you had enough lazy-Sunday’s? The Maxwell Street Market might be the perfect way to end that streak. It is open every Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 800 S. Desplaines St. In addition to the live entertainment and the flea market treasures you might find, this street market is also home to many hidden food gems. Don’t forget that you can take the delicious food you discover back to Vice District and pair it with your favorite craft beer.

    Chicago Food Truck Festival

    The fourth annual Chicago Food Truck Festival is happening on Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The festival is taking place around the corner from Vice District at 1600 S. Wabash. It is the largest food truck gathering in the state and features an incredible food, beer and wine selections as well as live entertainment. Get your tickets now, as last year over 40,000 people came to enjoy the festival and this year it is expected to draw even larger crowds.

    Chicago Ale Fest

    Another can’t-miss beer festival. The Chicago Ale Fest is taking place on June 23 and 24 - right down the street from Vice District - at Butler Field in Grant Park. With the skyline resting in the background, the festival will feature a large selection of craft beers, live music and more of Chicago’s best food trucks.

    Oak Park Micro Brew Review

    The 10th annual Oak Park Micro Brew Review runs from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19. It’s the largest, zero-waste, craft beer festival in the Midwest and features over 200 different brews. This event gives you the chance to try a diverse selection of the finest Illinois beers while enjoying live music. It takes place on Marion Street, Oak Park between Lake Street and Pleasant Street.

    South Loop Beer & Cider Fest

    On Saturday, July 29 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. the South loop Beer & Cider Festival will be in full swing at the Women’s Park and Gardens (1801 South Indiana Avenue Chicago, IL). The event will feature a large selection of beer (including some of your favorites from Vice District) and hard ciders from Illinois and beyond. Visit our station at the South Loop Beer & Cider Festival and enjoy our beer with some great food and live music.

    Chicago Craft Beer Festival

    The Chicago Craft Beer Festival is on Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Webster and Sheffield. With more than 70 craft beers to choose from, beer fans will enjoy new brews from all over the city, live music and a souvenir tasting glass. Money raised by the festival will benefit the Sheffield Neighborhood Association.

    Field Museum

    Field Market Days

    This summer the Field Museum will continue to hold its iconic Field Market Days. These rare, but awesome, days will feature fresh food, live music and beautiful lakefront views in the Field Museum’s own backyard. Complete some shopping on a wide selection of produce, enjoy fresh food and craft beer among other delicious options offered by local businesses. The Field Market Days are scheduled to run from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on June 24, July 15, August 26, September 23 and October 14.

    Free Admission Days

    The Field Museum is an incredible way to spend a day off, and when is a better time than on a free admission day? The upcoming free admission days are on Wednesday, June 21, Thursday, June 22 and Friday, June 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Any Illinois resident can enjoy free admission with special prices on various events within the museum.

    Soldier Field

    PNC Chicago Bears 5K

    At 8:00 a.m. on June 24, join fellow runners in a 5k that ends at Soldier Field. It is $45 to participate, and you’ll receive a Nike t-shirt as well as the knowledge that your money was donated to a good cause. All funds raised in the event will be invested by Bears Care in programs focused on rebuilding trust, sense of community and infrastructure in Chicago’s neighborhoods most impacted by gun violence. Rally with the community and run for a good cause.

    MLS All-Star Game

    The 2017 Major League Soccer All-Star Game will be hosted on August 2 at Soldier Field. Tickets are $175 and you’ll be able to enjoy one of the nation’s most competitive soccer games of the year at our very own Soldier Field.

    Bears First Preseason Game

    Mark your calendars, our Chicago Bears are back at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10 to take on the Denver Broncos in the first preseason game at Soldier Field. Whether you enjoy the first preseason game at Soldier Field or Vice District, we’ll have the kegs tapped and ready for you to enjoy before, during and after the game.

    Walk for Kidneys

    Beginning at Soldier Field At 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 25, join patients, friends, family and supporters from across Chicago as they come together to improve the health and well-being of people afflicted by kidney disease. Not only will participants be supporting a good cause, but they will enjoy refreshments, music, entertainment and more. Registration is free and donations will support the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois.

    ALS Walk for Life

    The 2017 Les Turner ALS Walk for Life is one of the world’s largest gatherings of ALS patients, families and friends. The money raised through the walk helps people currently living with ALS and their families through the Foundation’s Home and Community Service and grant programs, as well as the Les Turner ALS Research and Patient Center at Northwestern Medicine. The event will begin at Soldier Field at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 16.

    Chicago is an amazing place to be during the beautiful summer months. With a huge variety of events and festivals happening nearly every weekend, the to-do list can be quite long. Make the most out of Chicago’s summer season and experience some of the best events that this great city has to offer.
